And we didn't expect it.

After calling off their two-year separation earlier this year, Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner officially filed for divorce in April.

The couple who met while filming the comic book action film, Daredevil, have been married since 2005, and have three children together, Violet, Seraphina and Samuel.

The actors announced their separation two years ago, with Jennifer filing for divorce just days after their 10-year anniversary. The two issued a joint statement announcing their split:

‘We go forward with love and friendship for one another and a commitment to co-parenting our children. This will be our only comment on this private, family matter.’

The couple confirmed their separation last month and Ben Affleck has recently moved out of the family home, but the two have stayed true to their word, seeming to be as respectful of each other as always.

In fact, in a recent interview with People, Ben proved the couple were every bit as good as their word, going as far to say that he hoped they would work together in the future.

When asked about his interest in directing a female-led film, Ben replied ‘I would love to, are you kidding? I think that would be great. I’ve often said that I want to direct a move that Jennifer was in because I think she’s so great and she could do something really cool.’

He continued: ‘the problem that gets in the way is that one of us has to be looking after the kids at home.’

Step aside Chris and Gwyneth, it looks like Ben and Jen are taking 'conscious uncoupling' to the next level.
