Awards season has kicked off with the Golden Globes 2017. Here's what you need to know about the awards ceremony so far...
The Golden Globes 2017 kicked off Awards Season last night, Sunday 8th January.
Movie-wise, the Golden Globes tend to be the first solid indicator of how things will play out at the Oscars in February, though sometimes the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (who vote on the awards) like to strike out a bit – at the 2016 Golden Globes Sylvester Stallone won Best Actor for Creed, but then lost out to Mark Rylance at the Oscars.
You can find our list of Oscars 2017 predictions here. We’d say Emma Stone or Annette Bening could be the ones to beat in the Best Actress category, with Michelle Williams a strong contender for Best Supporting Actress. Casey Affleck looks likely to win Best Actor for Manchester by the Sea, while Mahershala Ali for Moonlight has a good chance of picking up Best Supporting. Want to make your own predictions? These are the best movies of 2017 you need to watch.
From the winners to highlights from the night, here’s your low-down on the 2017 Golden Globes. Already feel like your Golden Globes knowledge is up to scratch? Why not take our Golden Globes facts and trivia test to find out how well you really know them.
Golden Globes 2017 Presenters
In recent years the Golden Globes presenters have ranged from Ricky Gervais (whose close-the-bone jokes bruised a few Hollywood egos) as well as brilliant double act Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. This year Jimmy Fallon was been picked to host the TV and film awards. Given his Tonight Show and SNL pedigree, Fallon is considered to be a relatively safe pair of hands. ‘I’m so excited to be hosting the Golden Globes in January’ he tweeted back in August, ‘And I’m really looking forward to spending time with the Hollywood Foreign Press before Donald Trump has them all deported.’
