Show report: Nicole Farhi A/W’12

Nicole Farhi’s 30th anniversary is celebrated in suitably understated fashion

It’s 30 years since Nicole Farhi moved to London from her native France and in those three decades she has become synonymous with an easy elegance and creating clothes for real life – despite her anniversary year Farhi wasn’t about to stray from that formula.

This season, against the stunning backdrop of the Royal Courts of Justice, she took inspiration from turn of the century Vienna and the dark moody colour palette was only occasionally contrasted with rich pumpkin, mustard and ochre.
As always Farhi excelled at classic pieces – a beautiful cashmere funnel necked coat was simply cinched with a skinny belt, a crisp white shirt was contrasted with black brocade trousers while a sheer black poloneck was paired with a pencil skirt topped with a swathe of metallic sequins.

Midnight blue sequin panels also swirled up the sides of a black cocktail dress or entirely covered colourful skirts. It was the closest Farhi got to celebration, taking her demure little bow in an understated black pant suit.
