The legendary popstar has passed away at his home in Minnesota
Legendary musician Prince has died at the age of 57.
TMZ broke the news that the star had died earlier today at his home in Paisley Park, Minnesota.
Prince had been hospitalised last week after his plane was forced to make an emergency landing in Moline Illinois. A spokesperson had said that he was fighting a very bad case of the flu.
The news will come as a shock to his vast army of fans around the world. The flamboyant popstar is considered one of the greatest recording artists of the 20th Century, whose style and originality inspired a vast number of musicians who came after him, most recently Rihanna and Lady Gaga. In his 40-year career he sold over 100 million records.
At 9.43am Carver County Chief Deputy Jason Kamerud told Fox 9 that his team had responded to a medical call at 9.43am, though the cause of Prince’s death is still not yet clear.
