Potterhead Game of Thrones fans had their minds blown by Monday night's episode

Game of Thrones is finally back in our lives, and we couldn't be more excited. From Jon Snow's impending meeting with Dany to the new Game of Thrones baddie who is reportedly the worst yet, and of course all the deaths, the penultimate season looks set to be explosive to say the least.

The season premiere was finally upon us last night, and it wasn't just Ed Sheeran's debut appearance that set tongues a-wagging. Any Potterheads watching will have noticed a MAJOR Harry Potter connection in the first episode.

Avid fans will be well aware that young Samwell Tarly is currently in training to be a Maester. Sam wants to learn more about the White Walkers, but his only hope of doing so lies deep within the restricted section. Ring any bells yet?

As if the huge Hogwarts library reference wasn't enough, things got even more Potter-esque when Samwell asked archmaster Ebrose for permission to read up on the White Walkers in the restricted section.

The actor who plays Ebrose? None other than Jim Broadbent, aka Professor Slughorn in the Harry Potter franchise.

The whole thing pretty much mirrors the flashback scene from Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, in which a young Tom Riddle asks Professor Slughorn for permission to read up on horcruxes in the restricted section, doesn't it? Our minds are blown.

If the Game of Thrones bosses want to make any more references to our fave fantasy franchises, we're very much here for it.

Lord of the Rings cameos, anyone?
