Jennifer Lawrence falls over as she collects Best Actress Oscar

Jennifer Lawrence took a tumble as she made her way to the stage to collect her Academy Award

Jennifer Lawrence was (quite literally) swept off her feet as she won the Oscar for Best Actress on Sunday night. The star fell over as she made her way onto the stage to collect the award for her performance in Silver Linings Playbook.

As she made her way up the steps Jennifer tripped, falling forward and onto her hands, she then covered her face to hide her embarrassment. But she needn’t have been mortified, she styled out her stumble as she showcased her full-skirted Dior Haute Couture gown to maximum effect.

Earlier in the night as she walked the Oscars red carpet Jennifer revealed she’d already had six inches removed from the hem of her dress, and also admitted she’d not had time to eat that day.

Hugh Jackman played the perfect hero as he rushed to help the actress to her feet and handed over the award. To help soothe Jennifer Lawrence’s blushes the A-list audience took to their feet to give the star a standing ovation.

During her acceptance speech the actress appreciated the support, saying: ‘Thank you so much. This is nuts. You guys are only standing up because I fell and you feel bad. That was embarrassing.'
