This is how much Meghan Markle's wardrobe is worth

Earlier this week, it was reported that the Royal family clothing budget had gone up by £1.5m this year, totalling £4.96m, a bill paid by Prince Charles from the income of this Duchy of Cornwall estate.

This covers the clothes his sons Prince William and Prince Harry, as well as their wives Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle, wear at official engagements.

Now an expert has calculated the cost of Meghan's wardrobe since she got married (she footed the bill herself before the wedding), and it's worth £750,000.

Katie Nicholl told Entertainment Tonight, 'Meghan is now an ambassador for the royal family. Look at the publicity she has brought in run up to the wedding. I'd argue that's worth every penny.'

She looked at the price of everyone of Meghan's outfits, including her wedding dress, which is said to be worth over £200,000, while copies of her Stella McCartney evening dress were selling for £3,500.

Though the expert admits that Meghan might have covered the cost of part of the dress, saying, 'It may be that Meghan contributed certainly some of the costs for either of those wedding dresses, or perhaps both of those wedding dresses, I believe was also picked up by the palace.'

For her trip to Cheshire with the Queen, she wore a £13,500 Givenchy dress, followed by another £1,775 dress by the designer for Royal Ascot.

The Oscar de la Renta dress the Duchess of Sussex wore for Diana's niece's wedding is said to be worth £4,537, and the Carolina Herrera dress she wore to Trooping The Colour rings in at just over £3,000.

However, you can't put a price on the positive impact she has on sales for the brands she wears, it's not called the Meghan effect for nothing.

Penny grew up in France and studied languages and law at the Sorbonne Nouvelle University in Paris before moving to the UK for her MA in multimedia journalism at Bournemouth University. She moved to the UK permanently and has never looked back (though she does go back regularly to stock up on cheese and wine).

Although she's always loved fashion - she used to create scrapbooks of her favourite trends and looks, including Sienna Miller and Kate Moss' boho phase - her first job was at MoneySavingExpert.com, sourcing the best deals for everything from restaurants to designer sales.

However she quit after two years to follow her true passion, fashion journalism, and after many years of internships and freelance stints at magazines including Red, Cosmopolitan, Stylist and Good Housekeeping, landed her dream job as the Digital Fashion Editor at Marie Claire UK.

Her favourite part of the job is discovering new brands and meeting designers, and travelling the world to attend events and fashion shows. Seeing her first Chanel runway IRL at Paris Fashion Week was a true pinch-me moment.
