Love Chanel’s Boy bag? Say hello to the Girl…
Kristen Stewart, Vanessa Paradis and Alice Dellal have been unveiled as the faces of Chanel‘s new handbag campaign for SS15.
Modelling two new takes on existing icons and one brand-new sister bag, the Girl, the three starlets have posed for a series of portraits, shot, of course, by Karl Lagerfeld himself.
‘For me the iconic handbag is just like the House of Chanel, fundamental and modern, two qualities not usually shared,’ Kristen said of the bag she’s fronting. Named the 11.12, hers is an updated version of the classic 2.55, with stripe-like grooved leather replacing the brand’s iconic quilting.
Alice Dellal, meanwhile, holds on to her long-standing role as the face of the popular Boy bag, and works SS15’s patchwork take with a cool suede shirtdress.
‘Since discovering the Boy I have found it a permanent fixture in my wardrobe,’ Alice said of the bag, which has been getting a haute new makeover from Karl at least once a season. ‘It’s a "fuss-free" bag, it is very modern! The Boy bag was my first job with Chanel, it was the beginning of a unique journey. I also love the fact that it has such a romantic story behind it.’
‘Chanel had this attitude, it's the very spirit of Chanel,’ Karl explains of the original ethos for the Boy bag. ‘She'd picked it up from Boy Capel, the great love of her life... Indeed, the bag's called Boy Chanel.’

Karl’s latest creation (and perhaps the most newsworthy of the three new designs) is the Girl. Inspired by Chanel’s emblematic jackets, the brand-new concept features all the elements associated with the French house's classic suiting – tweed, buttons and braided trims – all worked into a soft and slouchy satchel.
‘I like the fact that it blends in with clothes or against the skin with infinite gentleness,’ Vanessa Paradis concluded as she wore the style with, well, nothing else at all, actually…
So how will Chanel's new Girl be worked into Karl’s AW15 collection, revealed in Paris next week? We can't wait to see the results.
