You might not realise this, but there are a few rules the Royals have to follow when they're travelling, like not eating shellfish in case they get food poisoning abroad.

That applies to their wardrobe too, and you'll notice Kate Middleton always packs both casual and black tie dresses, as well as wedges and court shoes.

But there is one pair of shoes she apparently always takes with her, even though it's not dictated by protocol.

According to The Express, the Duchess of Cambridge can't live without her trusted boat shoes, which she's worn on several trips, such as her tours of New Zealand, India and Canada.

She favours a taupe and cream style by Sebago, who state the shoes are 'welcome footwear for lunch, errands, and just dashing around. A traction-ready outsole keeps things steady on- and offshore.'

All of which are activities Kate undergoes often, so we can see why she'd love them. Albeit being known for her nude court pumps, the Duchess does love a casual shoe, and was often spotted wearing Superga trainers, which were also a favourite of Princess Diana's.

Who said the Royals aren't like the rest of us, eh?

Penny grew up in France and studied languages and law at the Sorbonne Nouvelle University in Paris before moving to the UK for her MA in multimedia journalism at Bournemouth University. She moved to the UK permanently and has never looked back (though she does go back regularly to stock up on cheese and wine).

Although she's always loved fashion - she used to create scrapbooks of her favourite trends and looks, including Sienna Miller and Kate Moss' boho phase - her first job was at MoneySavingExpert.com, sourcing the best deals for everything from restaurants to designer sales.

However she quit after two years to follow her true passion, fashion journalism, and after many years of internships and freelance stints at magazines including Red, Cosmopolitan, Stylist and Good Housekeeping, landed her dream job as the Digital Fashion Editor at Marie Claire UK.

Her favourite part of the job is discovering new brands and meeting designers, and travelling the world to attend events and fashion shows. Seeing her first Chanel runway IRL at Paris Fashion Week was a true pinch-me moment.
