Christina Hendricks pulled off the mother of all sartorial vanishing acts at the Mad Men Black And Red gala last night, when her Zac Posen dress literally halved in size before our very eyes.

She’s developed her own signature red carpet style of late and, regardless of the dress code, always comes gift-wrapped in some stunning, super-draped confection, often in Quality Street colours too.

And, true to form, last night’s Zac Posen number was a gown of epic proportions, or so it seemed until she whipped off the outer skirt layers in a red carpet quick-change, revealing a slim column gown underneath.

The best bit, however, was the reaction of everyone around the Mad Men star. One minute the skirt was there, the next it was gone. No one saw Christina change and no one saw an assistant standing sheepishly nearby with a bundle of mermaid-worthy fabric.

Was the whole thing an optical illusion? A Jedi mind trick? Or some sort of psychological trapping where half the population will see a full skirt, and the other a slim one?

Either way, #TheDress better watch out.
