Bye bye black

At Paris Fashion Week, Valentino might have got us convinced that red and pink are the colours to be mixing and matching come autumn/winter, but Pinterest has some other ideas.

If you wear nothing but black, then you might want to look away now, because Pinterest has seen an increase in 40% in saves in the past year for colour-blocking fashion in the UK.

The two stand-out colours are teal and yellow, as seen at Mulberry's London Fashion Week show, and we're totally game. Sure, you wouldn't expect the combo for the colder month, but it's got a certain chicness to it, and if you're afraid to try it, then go subtle. Think teal trousers, a white shirt and yellow statement earrings.

But it's not just teal and yellow that have captured fashion followers' hearts, as they turn to all things bright and colourful.

Other combinations include lilac and yellow (not for the faint-hearted, we agree) and mixing shades of blue together, such as cobalt and turquoise.

As well as designers on the catwalk, lots of high street brands have been dropping colour blocking in their autumn/winter lines, so it's time to take your cue.

We love all the bright suits, but the easiest way to introduce the trend to your wardrobe is through accessories. What better way to update your trusted black sweater?

Penny grew up in France and studied languages and law at the Sorbonne Nouvelle University in Paris before moving to the UK for her MA in multimedia journalism at Bournemouth University. She moved to the UK permanently and has never looked back (though she does go back regularly to stock up on cheese and wine).

Although she's always loved fashion - she used to create scrapbooks of her favourite trends and looks, including Sienna Miller and Kate Moss' boho phase - her first job was at MoneySavingExpert.com, sourcing the best deals for everything from restaurants to designer sales.

However she quit after two years to follow her true passion, fashion journalism, and after many years of internships and freelance stints at magazines including Red, Cosmopolitan, Stylist and Good Housekeeping, landed her dream job as the Digital Fashion Editor at Marie Claire UK.

Her favourite part of the job is discovering new brands and meeting designers, and travelling the world to attend events and fashion shows. Seeing her first Chanel runway IRL at Paris Fashion Week was a true pinch-me moment.
