5 awesome capes from the Burberry show
So pretty, they’re a work of art.
So pretty, they’re a work of art.
It’s safe to say the Burberry London Fashion Week 2017 show was unexpected and a true departure for the brand.
Inspired by British sculptor Henry Moore, the see-now-buy-later collection was modern and edgy, clashing with the usual English heritage vibes.
Oversized shirts, asymmetrical knits and utilitarian jumpsuits all featured, in a clean palette of beige and black.
But the biggest surprise of all was undoubtedly the return of the cape. We say return, because did you know that’s what the brand was most known for when it launched in the 1880s? Nice little fact there for you.
These were no ordinary capes either, embellished with Elizabethan ruffles, feathers and lace, they were true works of art, and we have to share our five favourites with you.
1. The lace cape
More of a traditional design, we can see brides rocking this look down the aisle.

2. The feather cape
Silver feathers and beading make this the perfect accoutrement for a black tie affair, perhaps teamed with a LBD.
3. The cast iron cape
To be honest, we really can’t think of a scenario where you could wear this, but isn’t it fabulous?
4. The pearl cape
I mean, who needs a necklace when you can own this beauty? It looks great layered over a sweatshirt too.
5. The Elizabethan cape
Taking vintage to whole new level, this cape is just what you need to elevate a pinstripe suit.
And with Kendall Jenner sporting this amazing knitted cape, we know which trend we'll be buying into this season.

Penny grew up in France and studied languages and law at the Sorbonne Nouvelle University in Paris before moving to the UK for her MA in multimedia journalism at Bournemouth University. She moved to the UK permanently and has never looked back (though she does go back regularly to stock up on cheese and wine).
Although she's always loved fashion - she used to create scrapbooks of her favourite trends and looks, including Sienna Miller and Kate Moss' boho phase - her first job was at MoneySavingExpert.com, sourcing the best deals for everything from restaurants to designer sales.
However she quit after two years to follow her true passion, fashion journalism, and after many years of internships and freelance stints at magazines including Red, Cosmopolitan, Stylist and Good Housekeeping, landed her dream job as the Digital Fashion Editor at Marie Claire UK.
Her favourite part of the job is discovering new brands and meeting designers, and travelling the world to attend events and fashion shows. Seeing her first Chanel runway IRL at Paris Fashion Week was a true pinch-me moment.
