Love a candid insta snap? In need of some culture therapy this weekend? Then put the Impossible Projects’ ‘8 x 8′ pop-up exhibition at Hoxton Gallery on your to-do list. With edgy pictures taken by The Kills’ Alison Mosshart and some mega-famous offspring, including Scout Willis (Demi Moore and Bruce Willis’s daughter) and Chuck Grant (Lana Del Ray’s – real name Elizabeth Grant – little sister).
Each of the eight artists involved have taken a series of intimate Polaroid-style photos, using Polaroid’s new Instant Lab Universal, which transforms smartphone images into classic Polaroid-type instant photos. The result is a cool, lo-fi quality that surpasses all Instagram filters. Dreamy.
‘8 x 8’marks 23-year old Scout Willis’s first photography show in London. Unlike her actor parents, she has focused her attentions on art and activism. Last year, she famously protested topless on the streets of New York, for the ‘Free The Nipple’ campaign. So it may be no surprise that her snaps include artsy nude self-portraits. Well, this is east London, y’know. Speaking to the Evening Standard, she said, ‘I like to be in control of what I’m making. I’ve seen my parents put everything into a role and then somewhere along the line it becomes about other people’s decisions.’
Other visual treats include indie rocker Alison Mosshart documenting road trips around her LA hometown. As well as featuring sexy portraits of stars from James Franco to Lana Del Rey, captured by Chuck Grant. The 26-year old, who describes her famous sis as ‘her muse’, recently graduated from Parsons School in New York, and continues to shoot Del Rey behind the scenes and on photo shoots.
Chuck, Scout and Alison are also joined by ‘instant photographers’ Kate Bellm, Paulina Surys, Elegia, Andrew Millar, and Oliver Blohm.
‘8 x 8’ exhibition is free and will be on display at Hoxton Gallery, The Arch, 9 Kingsland Road, London, E2 8AA, from February 20–22, 2015. Opening hours: 12pm-7pm
