The big-screen adaptation of the book by John Niven is still in the planning stages, but rumours suggest Rob has already approached producers about a role.

And if all goes well, Mr Pattinson could be set to play the lead role of drug addicted record label boss Seven Stelfox.

'Rob is a huge fan of the novel. He is fascinated by the music industry and is keen to get involved in the project,' an insider told the Metro.

But the dark movie would mark a significant change for the squeaky-clean star.

‘He's already approached producers telling them he wants to play the leading man. If he gets the role it would be the darkest part he's ever played,' the source continued.

‘It's and incredibly adult character and is bound to shock the tweens who account for such a huge part of Rob's fan base.'
