The smouldering star described parts of the new flick as ‘like a horror film', admitting it's much more serious than the first two Twilight instalments.
‘I've seen a very early cut,' the star told MTV.
‘It's good. It's different. It's really different, like, it's kind of serious.
R-Patz also let slip the fight scenes in Eclipse have picked up the pace, and are fiercer and more dramatic than ever before.

‘All the kinds of fight scenes that are in New Moon... they're real fights now in Eclipse. They're not, like, fantasy things. It's like a horror film!'
Eclipse may not be one for the fainthearted, but Rob has revealed they'll face even more of a challenge when they move on to the steamy fourth instalment, Breaking Dawn.
‘I think it will be interesting...I'm curious to see what it'll look like,' he told French magazine, Premiere.
‘We don't procrastinate any longer. Bella telling me, ‘I want you to turn me' and me going, ‘No, no, no.'
‘She becomes a vampire in this movie. We get married and sleep together.
‘I'm wondering how they will be able to translate this on screen. We'll end up with a R-rated movie.'
