Whilst Cara Delevingne and Rihanna have spent a fair amount of time partying together, the besties have yet to work together – that is, until now. The singer and model-turned-actress have been signed on to play parts in the upcoming Valerian And The City Of A Thousands Planets.
The director of the film, Luc Besson, shared the exciting news via Instagram. Besson - whose writing and directing portfolio includes Leon, The Fifth Element and The Transporter - uploaded a pic of Rihanna with the caption: “RIHANNA is in VALERIAN!!! And she has a big part! I'm Sooo excited!!!”.
The film, based on a graphic novel of the same name, also stars Dane DeHaan and Clive Owen. Set in the 28th Century, the movie will tell the story of time-travelling agent Valerian (played by De Haan) and his partner Laureline (Delevingne) as they investigate a galactic empire.
This year has been a mega busy one for Cara when it comes to acting. The supermodel was noticeably absent on the catwalks this year as she moves away from the world of modelling to concentrate on making movies. In 2015 we’ve seen her in Peter Pan remake, Pan, coming-of-age film, Paper Towns, and her new film London Fields is slated for release in December.
However, Hollywood isn't that new to Rihanna either. The singer played a small part in the 2012 film Battleship and lent her voice to the animated film Home, but Valerian And The City Of A Thousands Planets will mark her first outing in a leading role.
The pair will begin filming next January in France but we will have to wait a while before we see the fruits of their labour. The film's reported release date is currently set for July 2017.
