Mary Poppins is getting a reboot and we cannot wait.

Disney is reportedly dreaming up a live-action sequel to the 1964 classic as we speak! While there aren’t too many details at the moment, if the success of 2014’s Cinderella is anything to go by, this film will be huge.

The sequel will reportedly be set 20 years later in the Depression era with Mary returning to the Banks family in London, and will take inspiration from all eight volumes of PL Travers’ series on the magical nanny.

While we don't think anyone can replace Julie Andrews as the original flying child-minder, the early favourite to take on the role is Anne Hathaway (who we have to admit does bear a striking resemblance to Julie). The Devil Wears Prada star has also already proven her singing chops - at the 2009 Oscars she sang a duet with Hugh Jackman and then again at the 2011 awards.

Others predicted to be vying for the spot are Hollywood starlets Emily Blunt, Kristen Bell, Amy Adams, Amanda Seyfried, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Lea Michele, Anna Kendrick, Carey Mulligan and the legendary Meryl Streep (what can’t she do?!). The 1964 film won five Oscars (FIVE!) including Best Actress for Julie, so it’ll be a hot race to be cast.

While we’re waiting with baited breath to see who will take on the title role, we’re kind of more excited to see who will be cast in Dick Van Dyke’s place as Bert and most importantly, whether they will replicate Dick’s awful take on the cockney accent in the original?! Only time will tell, guys, only time will tell but we secretly hope so.

Disney have recently well and truly jumped on the remake wagon with last year’s mega-hit Cinderella catapulting Downton Abbey’s Lily James into the spotlight the world over and the upcoming Beauty & the Beast with Emma Watson at the helm destined to become one of 2017's biggest films because lets be honest with ourselves here, we’re all definitely going to see it.
