Russell was first to reveal the Sanskrit inking – which reads ‘Anuugacchati Pravaha’, meaning go with the flow – on the inside of his right arm as he posed on the cover of this month’s Rolling Stone magazine.

And now it seems his bride-to-be has got one to match, displaying an identical version as she performed at the launch of the Volkswagen 2011 Jetta in New York yesterday.

Donning a skin-tight palm-print minidress, Ms Perry strutted her stuff barefoot on the bonnet of one of the brand new cars, belting out her latest tune, California Gurls.

‘I was so broke, I couldn’t even pay the rent at the end of the month. So I am glad I was strong enough to hang in there.’
