Prince Harry announced to the world that Prince William and Kate Middleton will be taking part in the London Marathon next year, which is news to them!

The cheeky Prince stitched up his brother and sister-in-law during an interview with BBC presenter Sue Barker as he handed out medals to this year's marathon winners, Wilson Kipsang and Mary Keitany.

'I have been trying to get myself a place for years,' he joked. 'I can't get myself a place. What do you have to do?

'What's fantastic is that my brother and his wife will be doing it next year, I think. He's going to have to now, isn't he?'

If you had visions of Kate and Wills clad in lycra, sweating and running through the streets of London, you'll be disappointed because Clarence House has since denied that the Duke and Duchess will be taking part in 2013.

'It was said in jest,' a spokesperson said.

The 27-year-old also joked about how, when he used to live at Clarence House, he would get woken up by the marathon runners and that he reckons the best way to watch the event is by sitting outside a pub - a man after our own heart!

He said: 'Every year I experience the noise that starts outside my window at 8.30am. Luckily I've moved now so it's not too bad.

'It's my first experience on the finish line.

'I've tried to get out on the course and have a look around, sit outside a pub and watch people go by - the laziest way of doing it.

He added: 'It's a fantastic occasion. I always get to hear the atmosphere so to be here and to see it all is great.'

Congratulations to the 37,500 runners that took part in this year's marathon! You're all heroes!
