Willow Smith, nine-year-old daughter of Will Smith, has been signed by rap mogul Jay-Z
We’re used to celebrity offspring carving out their own careers, but Will Smith’s daughter has set a new first – the nine-year-old has just been signed by Jay-Z!
Willow, Will’s daughter with wife Jada Pinkett Smith, now has her debut record out on Jay-Z’s label Roc Nation.
She was chatting about her song, Whip My Hair, on Ryan Seacrest’s radio show in the US, when Mr Beyoncé called in to explain why he signed up the pint-sized star.
‘I heard the record first before I knew that it was recorded a nine-year-old, and I was like “Man, that record’s a smash”,’ he said.
When he heard the singer, Willow, was nine, ‘I was like “Whoa”, he says. After discovering she was Will Smith’s daughter, he says he was even more excited to work with her.
Roc Nation’s official statement says the label ‘is excited to work with Willow. She has an energy and enthusiasm about her music that is truly infectious. It’s rare to find an artist with such innate talent and creativity at such a young age.’
Willow is already used to the attention of being a celebrity in her own right; she appeared with dad Will in film I Am Legend, and is rumoured to be launching her own clothing range with brother Jaden and Rihanna’s stylist!
How on earth does she find the time at such a young age? Whatever happend to climbing trees and making your Barbie marry Action Man?!
