Tamal Ray, one of Bake Off's favourite contestants, has come out as gay in a new interview with the Radio Times
What’s that you can hear? It’s the sound of millions of female hearts breaking as Great British Bake Off star Tamal Ray has come out as gay.
The 29-year-old who has become this series’ most popular contestant, inspiring memes and listicles alike, told the Radio Times, when asked if he had a girlfriend: ‘I wouldn’t have a girlfriend, I would have a boyfriend. But I am single at the moment.’ You tell ’em Tamal!
The star of the show did admit however that he’s had a lot of attention on social media. ‘Yes, I have had a few offers on Twitter!,’ he said. Yep, just a quick look at Tamal’s mentions and you’ll find messages to the star about how people would like to “sit on his face” and jokes about his “cream horn”. Who knew that Bake Off fans were such a dirty bunch, eh?
Tamal has even acknowledged the tweets himself taking to the social network to say: ‘Some of the lustier tweets have had me crying with laughter. Also glad my folks aren’t on twitter! #GBBO #blushingbaker.’
In the interview Tamal also revealed that his new found fame is a great ice breaker in his day to day job as a doctor.
He said: ‘In the morning I see my patients on that day’s operating list, and talking about Bake Off helps with the tension a bit. I didn’t think the consultants were particularly interested, but I made some muffins recently and they all went mad for them.’
He added: ‘At the end of my set of night shifts this week I’ve been asked to stay on during the day and judge a hospital Bake Off. It’s the last thing I want to do, to be honest!’
