So excited is the actor about his new release, he just couldn't resist sharing a snap with fans, posting the first picture on Twitter.
'♫POUR SOME SUGAR...♫ rockin the tats and gear as 80's rocker Stacee Jaxx on the #RockOfAgesMovie set,' he Tweeted.
Barely recognisable, dressed in skinny black jeans and biker boots with lashings of heavy metal accessories, Tom plays an 80s heavy metal rocker in the new Adam Shankman-directed movie, an adaptation of the famous Broadway show.
And he's not the only famous face on the star-studded line-up. The cast also includes Brit comedian Russell Brand, singer Mary J. Blige, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Julianne Hough and Malin Ackerman.
Earlier this year, director Adam Shankman spoke of his excitement about the project, and how he's been blown away with multi-talented Mr Cruise's singing voice.
'It wasn't until our first go around with his voice lesson that we sort of looked at each other and went, "This is gonna work!"' he told Entertainment Weekly of the movie.
'And we were basically dancing around the living room and high-fiving each other because he actually has a fantastic voice.
His grandfather or his great-grandfather was an opera singer, so apparently he's genetically predisposed for this sort of thing.'
