The songstress released by police early this morning, and will face no further action
After being arrested and charged with public intoxication in the early hours of yesterday morning, police have revealed troubled songstress Christina Aguilera was detained ‘for her own safety,’ but released earlier today.
It’s thought Christina and her new beau Matt Rutler were stopped by police around 2:45 yesterday morning, after they were spotted driving ‘erratically’ through LA after leaving a Hollywood party.
The pair were taken to the West Hollywood Sheriff’s station, where the songstress was charged with public intoxication, and Rutler with driving under the influence.
According to celebrity website TMZ, the Beautiful singer was ‘extremely intoxicated’ and ‘unable to take care of herself’.
Police have confirmed Christina – who has been slapped with a whopping $250,000 bail – is in the process of being released, and will not be charged, but have yet to comment on Matt Rutler.
‘We have no desire to prosecute, none whatsoever,’ a County Sheriff’s spokesman said of Christina in a statement. ‘It just for a public safety issue.
‘When she was able to navigate and to think on her own and make her own way, she was released.’
On the reason for her arrest, he added: ‘She was not capable to taking care of herself. She was incapacitated. She was cooperative. She was not belligerent in any way whatsoever. She was just intoxicated.’
Christina’s stint in custody has sparked concern from family and friends, worried her drinking has become ‘out of control’.
‘Her drinking is out of control,’ one insider told Us magazine, adding it ended in a dramatic row with her mother on New Year’s Eve. ‘She’s a total mess.’
‘Christina was so wasted before her guests arrived that her mother told her to lie down and sober up,’ another insider tells the publication.
‘Christina then yelled “Who do you think you are?” It was crazy!’
This is just one in a long line of embarrassing events for Miss Aguilera. Earlier this month the star was forced to apologise, after fluffing the lines to the American national anthem, as millions watch her perform during alive performance at the Super Bowl.
