If there’s one thing members of the Kardashian-Jenner dynasty are great at, it’s diversification.

The opportunistic first family of showbusiness head up a diverse business portfolio that straddles everything from fashion and beauty to cars, drinks, sports equipment and tech.

But perhaps surprisingly – considering the family live on the doorstep of Hollywood – there’s one world they haven’t really ventured into: acting.

But it would seem this is about to change with news that Caitlyn Jenner is joining the cast in the second series of Amazon Prime show Transparent.

The casting was announced by Transparent creator Jill Solloway in an Associated Press interview at the GLAAD Media Awards on Saturday night.

Describing Caitlyn’s participation in the show as a ‘dream come true’ Jill added that Caitlyn’s new role was a natural next step since many of the women involved in Transparent are also involved in Caitlyn’s successful reality show. ‘We are all part of the same community’ she said, ‘a lot of the transwomen who work on our show are also in her show, I Am Cait.’

There is no word yet on the specifics of Caitlyn’s role in the second series of the hit show, which follows the story of a Los Angeles family attempting to work through the discovery that their father Mort (played by Jeffrey Tambor) is transgender.

There are of course striking parallels between the fictional Mort and the real life Caitlyn Jenner’s stories – including the California family setting and the age of its central character.

Caitlyn came out as a transgender woman last summer with this ground-breaking magazine cover. Reactions to her transition have been largely positive, though she has had to weather criticism from the trans camp for what some believe to be her ‘white and privileged’ perspective of transitioning, as well as her conservative views (she has professed to be a Republican Donald Trump supporter, though recent events suggest she is changing her mind).

No word yet on whether the Transparent role is a quick dip into acting or will lead to other roles in the future. But as usual with anything Kardashian-Jenner related, we’re sure there’s more to come.
