Arctic Monkeys win at Q Awards and Kylie named idol of 2007

THE ARCTIC MONKEYS were named the best act in the world at the Q Awards yesterday.

They were pipped to the post however for the best album award by Amy Winehouse's Back to Black (although the troubled musician failed to make an appearance), whilst Muse picked up the award for best live act.

The lunchtime ceremony also honoured a number of musicians for their careers in music. Sir Paul McCartney was named icon of the year and Kylie was given the accolade of idol of 2007. Damon Albarn was awarded the prize for inspiration.

Kylie sported a new Marilyn Monroe-esque hairstyle paired with a figure-hugging black dress and was greeted with a standing ovation from the industry.

It was the star's first awards ceremony since returning to life in the public eye following her treatment for breast cancer.

The princess of pop described the day saying: 'it's my first day back at work like this so it's very exciting and slightly nerve-wracking.'
