Katy Perry has gone over to the light side, ditching her dark locks for a new blonde 'do.

Stepping out at the premiere of new movie, The Smurfs, Mrs Brand made a style statement, rocking a sparkly dress featuring the film's eponymous blue star and debuting her honey hued tresses.

But her makeover shouldn't come as a surprise to fans - Katy started the dye process last month, switching from jet black to red and revealing the colour change was a work in progress to get back to her natural blonde.

To return to her roots, she had to colour her hair in two stages, she explained via Twitter: 'So I didn't get to the exact color (sic) I wanted from being black for so long! 2get to goal I have 2b GINGER for 3WKS.'

She added: 'If I don't wait 3wks, I'll end up w/no hair or a #pixie90scutw/abarretteinthefront It's okay, I'll get to my secret color(s) soon! #patience.'
