Marie Claire meets uber-hairstylist Guido Palau

Guido Palau is the hairstylist that all the designers want to work with. He owns fashion week and creates the hair looks for the biggest shows including Victoria Beckham, Alexander McQueen, Christopher Kane, Alexander Wang, we really could go on-and-on. We caught up with him following the AW15 shows for a quick-fire question round.

MC: What’s more important; cut or colour? Guido: Both are equally as important. A great cut and colour can enhance a woman’s beauty and bring out some of her best features.

MC: What made you first want to work with hair? Guido: I was always interested in fashion and style and doing hair seemed the best way into the industry.

MC: What is your go-to hair product? Guido: Redken Windblown 05 Dry Finishing Spray, £15.80. It’s a great texturising and volumising product that’s fool proof. Every woman will love this product.

MC: On a woman; long hair or short hair? Guido: Every woman is an individual. It’s a matter of taste. MC: How do you handle stress on a shoot/in general? Guido: Meditation

MC: Who defines beauty for you? Guido: Every woman has her own beauty. I recently worked with Jane Fonda whose beauty and energy inspired me. She’s a great role model for women of any age.

MC: What is your own hair care routine? Guido: I rarely wash it. When I do, I apply Redken leave-in conditioner Extreme Anti Snap, £14.70. I normally run out with wet hair, but first apply Redken Mess Around 10, £10.75, and let it dry naturally.

MC: Who cuts your hair? Guido: Sandy, my right hand woman and first assistant.

MC: What’s your main indulgence? Guido: 1950’s and 1960’s French ceramics

MC: What do you spend too much money on? Guido: Car services

MC: What’s your secret skill? Guido: Cooking

MC: Audrey or Marilyn? Guido: Audrey

MC: Where do you go to relax? Guido: My house in Water Island, a small community on Fire Island in New York.

MC: Who leaves you star struck? Guido: David Bowie
