All by my self (thank God)

You're probably sick of hearing about Valentine's Day. Yes, there are lots of exciting themed goods around at the moment - Krispy Kreme Valentine's Day doughnuts! This very fancy Marks and Spencer's meal deal! The Ben & Jerry's Valentine's Day flavour! - and don't even get us started on how fetch this extra special Galentine's Day Mean Girls screening sounds.

But what if you want to get away from all the fuss and heart emoji cushions and singing cards? What if a relaxing (and solo) retreat to an isolated cabin in the beautiful Scottish hills sounds like the perfect way to spend your Valentine's? Do you simply run off for the weekend on your own and find inner peace in a randomly located but perfectly charming Airbnb?

Actually, yes, that's exactly what you should do.

According to new data from the home sharing app and website, more people than ever are shunning Valentine's Day and travelling alone over what is generally considered the most romantic weekend of the year.

Solo bookings over the Valentine’s weekend have increased by over 200% compared to last year, and over 150% increase amongst British travellers, as people round the world are turning their back on the commercial romance associated with February 14th in favour of spending time taking a trip in their own company.

If you want to make it a solo staycation though, here are a few properties for one that will really whet your travel appetite.

Even for those who still believe in the magic of Valentine’s Day, it appears the more traditional destination choice is fading as the favourite of the romantically inclined. Any couple who wants a quick getaway will automatically be guided towards Paris, the city often regarded as the romantic capital of the world, and yet it has seen a lower increase (96%) in two-person bookings over the last year than other European cities like London (175%), Edinburgh (125%), Amsterdam (105%) and Madrid (102%), as couples seek out alternative locations to feel the love.

Either way, the stars are saying it's time to get away.

    Brb, holiday shopping.
