And they're easier to wear than you think
White jeans are officially back on the fashion map for the season (plus you’ve got months before Labor Day, so it’s allowed), and for all those not convinced by the bright white denim look, here’s just a few reasons why it’s time to trade in your trusty blues.
White jeans work with pretty much anything in your current wardrobe. Think khaki shirts, Breton t-shirts and 70s-style peasant blouses. Essentially, a must-have for any off-duty wardrobe.
As we all know, white jeans perfectly compliment that golden summer tan, making them the first thing to pack when prepping for any hot holiday or weekend get away.
Plus, the limited choice previously on offer (mostly super-skinny, super-unflattering styles that do nothing but add extra inches to your shape) made this trend a total no-go. Until now. This season, the humble white jean has had a makeover and is looking cooler than ever.
Our favourite is a flare or a cropped culotte style, though ripped boyfriend jeans are still an off-duty staple.
Style-wise, the cropped slim-fit will be the most flattering option. Best worn with some contrasting black slides and a fresh red pedicure. The boyfriend is well worth a look for teaming with sleek stripes and a bold lip. And for the ultimate French girl look, go for an ankle-grazing, high waisted style with a few perfectly positioned tears.
If you’re afraid of bright white but still want to take on the trend, try a slightly more subtle, off white shade which is still super chic but slightly easier to wear.
Cropped white jeans look great with so many shoes (flats, heels, ankle boots), but it’s important to get the length right, the most flattering is about 1 inch above the ankle bone.
Finally, before you shop our edit of the best white jeans below, here are a few housekeeping tips from denim guru Donna Ida: ‘Don’t fold or hang white jeans next to indigo jeans or wear them with black handbags, blue shirts etc. And while white denim is a very sturdy fabric and most things will wash straight out, should you have a spill, the quickest way to remove ink stains is with a can of trusty hairspray. Finally, never put your white jeans in the dryer.’
