Yes, Keeley!

Keeley Hawes returned to the screen this month in BBC’s new six-part thriller series, The Bodyguard, following Police Sergeant David Budd (Richard Madden) as he is assigned to protect Home Secretary Julia Montague (Keeley Hawes) from assassination.

The Bodyguard is one of the biggest talking points of 2018 so far (just don’t watch it before bed!), and with Keeley Hawes at its helm, it’s no doubt on its way to winning big at award season.

But despite the buzz around the show, it wasn’t the acting or terrifying plot lines that got the world talking this week. Instead it was Keeley Hawes’ dress size.

Yes, really. The 42-year-old BAFTA TV Award nominee was spreading around the internet after the Daily Mail reported that she lost a stone for her role in the BBC drama, crediting the transformation to an alkaline diet and exercise regime.

‘I hear she lost about a stone for the part, putting herself on an alkaline diet and an exercise regime based on the methods espoused by US fitness guru Tracey Anderson,’ the article read. ‘My source on the TV show’s set said: “This is a really sexy role for her, she wanted to get in character and look amazing.”’

This is something however that Keeley was quick to refute, taking to her Twitter account to publicly respond.

‘Umm, no, I didn’t,’ she captioned her retweet of the Daily Mail article, before adding the hashtags ‘#whowritesthisshite?’ and ‘#whatthefuckisanalkalinediet?’

Unsurprisingly, her epic clap back proved popular among fans who took to Twitter to publicly praise the actress.

‘I was literally talking about this with my mum about how the press are obsessed with women’s body images,’ one fan (@LibbyODowd) tweeted. ‘I’m not interested in that, I’m interested in the fact that you’re a bloody brilliant actress. Honestly they need to stop.’

‘Calling it out, this is why you are one of my faves, not just a brilliant actor but an even better woman and human,’ agreed another user (@CathHedley).

You go, Keeley!
