This season's most wanted - and copied item? Balenciaga's navy blazer
BACK-TO-SCHOOL chic is de rigueur – and the plethora of copies the Balenciaga navy blazer with yellow piping has sparked, proves it.
At least ten high street shops, including Peacocks and Topshop, have helped create its cult status with look-a-like pieces. Copycat garments include a red and black striped version, as well as velvet and hot pink interpretations.
But, despite the huge similarities, feted designer behind the directional label, Nicholas Gesquiere, has so far avoided the route of many other designers (most notably Christian Louboutin) who have taken legal action against other retail imitators.
Guesquiere has, in the past, shrugged off high street copying as inevitable, saying, ‘I’m ok with copying… it’s all just a cycle, I guess.’
Looks like he’ll have to be copycat-cool with the style stir his jacket has already created.
