Kate Middleton is often the centre of attention, with everything from her fabulous dresses and spot-on styling to her pitch-perfect make-up all earning her style snaps from fashion fans. But last night it wasn't Kate's dress doing the talking - it was her brand new 'do.

The Duchess of Cambridge debuted a new hairstyle as she embarked on a solo engagement at the Natural History Museum, showing off a darker version of her trademark glossy locks and a soft, feathery fringe.

It's thought Kate Middleton's new face-framing hairstyle, which shows off her shiny tresses to perfection, was the work of Sloane Square hairdresser Richard Ward.

Along with her sweeping new side fringe, the famous hairdresser also appears to have darkened Kate's locks, taking several inches off the length for a shorter style.

And it has already earned her praise.

Speaking of Kate's new 'do, the creative director of the Aveda hair institute, Michael Lendon, told the Mail: 'The new layers around the face will allow Kate to go for different styles.

'I think this could be the start of some new tricks from Kate in the hair department, expect some glam hair-ups as the shorter layers will make styling an up-do more fun. Without a doubt, the subtle new twist to her signature long locks will be a hit.'

Alongside her new hairstyle, Kate also indulged in a spot of style recycling, stepping out in a £1,400 emerald green Mulberry shirtdress, which she first wore to a Buckingham Palace reception in November last year.

With a chic Peter Pan collar, pleats and a super-luxe Peace & Love Jacquard pattern, the Duchess let her dazzling Cabbage dress do the talking, adding just a simple pair of black suede heels.

Kate Middleton arrived at the Natural History Museum to open the attraction's new Treasures exhibition yesterday evening, giving a small speech, before viewing the exhibits with museum bosses.

Taking to the stage, the Duchess told a gathered crowd that she and Prince William had visited the London attraction on many occasions.

'The Natural History Museum has a very special place in the heart of this nation,' she said.

'William and I are just two of millions of people who have passed through these doors, and marvelled at the spectacular wonders of the natural world, housed in this beautiful gallery.

‘I care passionately about what this museum stands for. Being here tonight, seeing some of nature’s finest treasures, reminds me just how precious and awe inspiring the natural world is.

‘That is why the opening of Treasures is so incredibly exciting. If it were ever needed, there is now even more reason to visit this wonderful museum.’

Speaking of Kate Middleton's royal visit, Dr Michael Dixon, Director of the Natural History Museum said: ‘We are thrilled Her Royal Highness joined us to celebrate the opening of Treasures. We hope that she is the first of many visitors to discover everything the Museum represents in this special gallery.’
