Rihanna celebrates turning 21 in first public appearance since alleged assault
Rihanna stepped out in public for the first time this week since the alleged attack by Chris Brown – to celebrate her 21st birthday.
The singer – whose actual birthday was on 20 February – rocked up at Coco de Ville in West Hollywood wearing denim shorts, a long printed jacket and a pair of shades that were never removed.
She and a group of pals partied in the cordoned off VIP area, where they sipped on cocktails and feasted on a pink cupcake tower covered in candles.
An onlooker said: ‘She looked good and was smiling and laughing.’
Meanwhile, Brown has pulled out of the Nickleodeon Kids Choice Awards in LA.
The R&B star was nominated by children for favourite male singer and favourite song but there has since been an online petition launched calling for his withdrawal.
And yesterday he asked to be withdrawn.
His spokeman said in a statement: ‘Chris very much appreciates the support of his fans.
‘Unfortunately, the controversy surrounding the incident last month has shifted the focus from the music to whether he should be allowed to be among those nominated.’
