Elton John embroiled in child pornography controversy
Elton John could be investigated by police after becoming embroiled in a child pornography case.
A piece of art donated by the singer to a special photography exhibition has been seized by police who reportedly fear it could breach child pornography laws.
The photograph, which was due to go on public show today as part of the Elton John Photographic Collection at The Baltic Centre For Contemporary Art in Gateshead, was taken by Nan Goldin in 1998 and shows too young girls ‘posing provocatively’.
While police are now said to be investigating whether the gallery has broken the law by agreeing to display the piece, a spokesperson also claimed, ‘Who owns it or owned it is also part of the investigation.’
A statement on Sir Elton John’s website today says: ‘The photograph exists as part of the installation as a whole and has been widely published and exhibited throughout the world… without any objections of which we are aware.’
