Ever wondered if there’s a stage between having healthy hair and your locks being full blown damaged? The answer is yes, there is...

It’s dehydration and it doesn’t get a lot of air time - until now.

L’Oréal Paris is here with a new haircare range that’ll get your strands back to looking their best in no time at all.

Celebrities, makeup artists and beauty buffs all swear by their favourite hyaluronic acids. The serums deliver hydration, plumping and glow to our skincare routines like no other products. But what if we could get that boost for our hair?

With a new collection that’s been five years in the making and suitable for all hair types, the leading scientists behind L'Oréal Paris have applied their knowledge of skincare to a range of hair care products with hyaluronic acid

Knowing that the ingredient is great at gathering and holding water, as well as encouraging H20 to enter skin cells, the team got to work to see whether they could formulate something for dehydrated hair. Interestingly they found that, although hyaluronic acid works a little differently when applied to locks, it still gets to work in plumping our strands.

How does hyaluronic acid for hair work?

The ingredient is a humectant, a sciencey word for something that draws water to the top of the skin or hair’s surface and retains it. Instead of penetrating the skin or the scalp, when hyaluronic acid is applied to hair it creates a protective layer around each shaft.

Elisabeth Bouhadana, L'Oréal Paris’ Global Scientific Director says: “Ingredients such as Hyaluronic Acid, which have a good affinity for the hair fibre, actually ‘wrap’ the hair with caring moisture. This protects the hair fibre from the effects of friction and from becoming brittle.”

By targeting the weak and damaged strands, the acid acts as a conditioning lubricant which makes it easier to brush your hair, leading to less hair loss. Most importantly though, the range delivers visible plumpness to damaged hair and can revive your blow-dry by adding more volume.

In fact, the brand promises that by treating your hair to the whole range you’ll get a 72-hour moisture injection that’ll leave your strands two times more plump without feeling heavy. Sound too good to be true? Let the fact that the range quickly shot to the #1 spot for haircare in Brazil speak for itself.

Will this range save damaged hair?

'Damaged' and 'dry' are terms that are often used interchangeably when it comes to hair care. This is a PSA to tell you that the two are very different. Dryness can occur to your entire head of hair and it leaves your locks looking dull and feeling coarse. Whereas damage happens in certain areas of the hair (think, split ends, roughness) and often leads to strands breaking.

The main problem is that dehydrated hair can be difficult to identify which means it is often misdiagnosed or missed altogether. This leads to most of us not using the hair products that we actually need. To target this issue, the scientists at L’Oreal Paris thought it made sense to harness the power of hyaluronic acid, an ingredient the brand already uses well in its skincare range (L’Oréal Paris Revitalift Filler Hyaluronic Acid serum holds the #1 spot worldwide), and adapt it to treat the hair.

“The ingredients’ ability to bind and retain water molecules is really high. I would say each molecule can probably retain 1000 water molecules,” says Bouhadana. She goes on to say, “That’s why the hyaluronic acid range can be really helpful to drive in moisture and keep the fibre soft, smooth, and plump as if putting life back to damaged and dull hair.”

By using hyaluronic acid for hair like the L'Oréal Paris Elvive Hyrda Hyaluronic hair care products, you’ll be sealing water into your mane and stopping telltale signs of damage like split ends before they start. This is your four-stop shop for healthier and plumper-looking hair.
