Expedia’s 2014 Flip Flop Report offers some brilliant insights into our holiday behaviour...

A new survey has revealed that the modest one-piece has successfully completed its epic fashion comeback, officially overtaking the bikini as the most popular swimwear item on the planet.

Expedia’s 2014 Flip Flop Report revealed the statement swimsuit’s impressive feat, as well as some other (really quite brilliant) stats about our holiday-ing habits. (See the gallery above for some of our favourite one-piece fashion moments ever.)

Apparently 29% of us would “work weekends for a month” in exchange for just one extra beach holiday per year and 11% would be actually willing to experience influenza for a full 48 hours, in return for that extra break.

Tanning is still on the list of things people love to do most at the beach, but taking a stroll and swimming were voted the top activities.

Germans (for the third year running, no less) were declared the likeliest to sunbathe in the buff, while 31% of those surveyed said they avoid posting holiday photos on social media so that they “don’t make my friends jealous.” How thoughtful. 18% of participants, however, said that they do post holiday snaps to deliberately inspire envy…
