Meet Oscar Isaac: Is This Star Wars' New Han Solo?

Here's everything you need to know about Star War's newest rogue
Star Wars: The Force Awakens releases on December 18th and after meeting the franchises newest stars, Daisy Ridley and John Boyega, here's your need-to-know on the handsome rogue Poe Dameron played by Guatemalan-American actor Oscar Isaac (AND who many have earmarked as the new Han Solo). Who Does Oscar Play In Star Wars: The Force Awakens? Along with Rey and Finn, not much is known about Poe – the newest introduction to the Star Wars universe. He’s been described as a Resistance X-wing pilot, with Oscar telling Star Wars fans at a recent convention that Poe is the ‘best freaking pilot in the galaxy’ whose been sent ‘on a mission by a certain princess, and ends up coming up across Finn, and their fates are forever intertwined.’
Sounds a bit like our favourite inter-galactic smuggler Han Solo, non? Judging from the recent teaser, it looks like Poe gets into more than he bargained for, namely being tortured by new baddie Kylo Ren and going into battle with Finn. One thing’s for sure though, over at Marie Claire HQ, we’re betting that Poe bears no relation to the Skywalker clan – unlike Rey and Finn – as out of all of the film’s protagonists, Poe is the only one that got a last name.
**Powers of deduction at work, or what?!** He’s One Of Hollywood’s Rising Stars
Having worked in Hollywood since 2006, Oscar has slowly and steadily been working his way through the industry from indies to blockbusters. Starring opposite Oscar winners like Russell Crowe in 2010’s Robin Hood and acting in Madonna’s directorial debut W.E., it wasn’t until 2013’s Inside Llewyn Davis that Oscar really started to become a familiar face, landing a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor and showing Hollywood his serious acting chops. Not only has he now bagged a role in Star Wars and its sequels, he’ll also be starring as the villain in next summer’s X-Men: Apocalypse. Way to go, Oscar. He Can Dance
Probably not needed in Star Wars – unless there’s an extended Cantina scene, we don't know about? – Oscar’s shown he’s got moves other than looking depressed with a cat (the Internet's favourite gif below). In 2015’s sci-fi hit, Ex Machina, Oscar’s role as a creepy scientist was given a bit of light relief when he broke out into a dance, cutting some killer shapes on the dancefloor (above).

…And He Can Carry A Tune
He can act, he can dance and he can also… sing. Another skill that we’re pretty sure won’t be utilised in this month’s release, Oscar landed his first major acting nomination after performing as a folk artist in Joel and Ethan Coen’s comedy drama film Inside Llewyn Davis. Singing songs with real-life pop star Justin Timberlake, Oscar’s ability to carry a tune netted him rave reviews and landed him on every director’s must-have list, in the process. But in our opinion, it’s this deleted scene from Zack Snyder’s 2011 fantasy action film, Sucker Punch, with Oscar singing a jazzy rendition of Love Is The Drug, that has us wishing the man would just do a musical already.
