  • Lady Gaga steps out with pearl-adorned skin at the 2010 amfAR Gala

On clocking Lady Gaga’s amfAR get-up this morning, a number of opinions did the rounds of the Marie Claire desk – was she emulating Pirates of the Caribbean’s Barnacle Bill? Had she caught some bizarre Victorian plague? Or then there was the ‘just dunked in a vat of talc’ theory.

Of course, the fierce debate focused on the strange white formations that had appeared on the Lady’s skin, which on closer inspection were revealed to be clusters of pearls adorning patches of her face and body.

Never one to opt for the ordinary, while others might simply sling on a pearl necklace, Gaga went one step further, giving her face the appearance of having contracted some strange spreading disease.
