Everyone is wearing this colour right now and it's pretty divisive

Remember when Elle Woods said, 'Whoever said orange was the new pink is seriously disturbed'. Well we could all well be more disturbed than you'd think, because everyone is wearing the zesty shade right now, and it's never looked so cool.

Hues of tangerine and burnt orange were first spotted on the SS19 catwalk, from the likes of Loewe, Hermes (of course), Rejina Pyo, Fendi and Valentino, and it wasn't long before we spotted it on the streets too.

But whilst touches of the trend were seen last season, it's truly come into its own this summer, and for good reason: is there a shade that better defines summer?

Influencers such as Monikh and Hannah Crosskey have added a dose of Vitamin C to their wardrobes, picking satiny finishes that drape beautifully on the silhouette, whilst the likes of Blanca Miro have gone for more structured shirt dresses.

This trend looks particularly good on a tan, mixed in with white accessories, however there aren't really any rules to it, and you're more than welcome to mix different tones. Pumpkin, orange, carrot, whichever your vegetable or fruit preference, the choice is yours.

Penny Goldstone

Penny Goldstone is the Digital Fashion Editor at Marie Claire, covering everything from catwalk trends to royal fashion and the latest high street and Instagram must-haves.

Penny grew up in France and studied languages and law at the Sorbonne Nouvelle University in Paris before moving to the UK for her MA in multimedia journalism at Bournemouth University. She moved to the UK permanently and has never looked back (though she does go back regularly to stock up on cheese and wine).

Although she's always loved fashion - she used to create scrapbooks of her favourite trends and looks, including Sienna Miller and Kate Moss' boho phase - her first job was at MoneySavingExpert.com, sourcing the best deals for everything from restaurants to designer sales.

However she quit after two years to follow her true passion, fashion journalism, and after many years of internships and freelance stints at magazines including Red, Cosmopolitan, Stylist and Good Housekeeping, landed her dream job as the Digital Fashion Editor at Marie Claire UK.

Her favourite part of the job is discovering new brands and meeting designers, and travelling the world to attend events and fashion shows. Seeing her first Chanel runway IRL at Paris Fashion Week was a true pinch-me moment.
