Meghan Markle's evening wedding dress had this special meaning

Meghan Markle's wedding day look, from the Givenchy dress to the veil and the special Princess Diana ribbon sewn into her dress, was full of meaning - and it turns out her second wedding dress was no exception.

Speaking to the BBC, Stella McCartney revealed that the dress was actual symbolic of Meghan transitioning from her old life as an actor to her new role as a member of the Royal family.

She said, 'The role she's taken on, it's very austere, it's very sort of serious and I think there's a great weight she's acquired through that and she takes it very seriously. I think this was the last moment that she could reflect the other side to her and you know, the joy and the human within her.'

'I was aware we had to take the right kind of positioning, the right pace, the right voice, there was a delicate line,' she added.

And even though the Duchess of Sussex apparently takes fashion advice from Prince Harry, she was very much hands on when it came to designing the special dress.

Stella said, 'You know, it was very much her dress and I felt very proud that she came to me for that part of the wedding and that she got to reflect her in it. We worked together. When you go to a wedding, it's not like, "here, that's what you're wearing". The person has to feel like a million dollars, they need to feel like they own it.'

I think we can all agree that the result was totally worth it (and by the way you can buy a replica of it here), striking the perfect balance between Hollywood glamour and Royal elegance.

Penny grew up in France and studied languages and law at the Sorbonne Nouvelle University in Paris before moving to the UK for her MA in multimedia journalism at Bournemouth University. She moved to the UK permanently and has never looked back (though she does go back regularly to stock up on cheese and wine).

Although she's always loved fashion - she used to create scrapbooks of her favourite trends and looks, including Sienna Miller and Kate Moss' boho phase - her first job was at MoneySavingExpert.com, sourcing the best deals for everything from restaurants to designer sales.

However she quit after two years to follow her true passion, fashion journalism, and after many years of internships and freelance stints at magazines including Red, Cosmopolitan, Stylist and Good Housekeeping, landed her dream job as the Digital Fashion Editor at Marie Claire UK.

Her favourite part of the job is discovering new brands and meeting designers, and travelling the world to attend events and fashion shows. Seeing her first Chanel runway IRL at Paris Fashion Week was a true pinch-me moment.
