Lucy Williams' new collection for Missoma is her most personal yet

Lucy Williams has just launched her third collection with cult jewellery brand Missoma (a favourite of Meghan Markle's) but if you thought it would be more of the same, you're wrong. This one is entirely different and much more personal.

Titled 1987, the edit, as you might've guessed, was inspired by the fashion influencer's childhood. 'This is the most personal one I’ve done to date. I wanted a collection that was full of staples but had that statement edge. I immediately think of the 80s when I think of statement jewellery', she told me.

Sure, the collection might've been inspired by 80s and 90s pop culture (Lucy cites TLC and the Beverly Hills 90210 ladies as her sartorial icons), but it's a bit closer to home.

In fact, Lucy says she thought back to growing up with her sisters and mum in the 90s: 'I grew up in the 90s with my mum and two older sisters, so there were always loads of magazines with cool editorials lying around. A lot of it is inspired by my mum in the 80s, the quilted earrings are very similar to ones she used to wear, but with a modern twist. It all comes back round.'

And the necklaces, earrings and bracelets reflect that perfectly, mixing a touch of vintage with a modern twist. There are chunky chains which are already selling out, cross chokers and snake chain studs. There are charm bracelets and signet rings and the perfect gold hoops.

In short, a few new classics to add to your existing Missoma collection, as Lucy encourages you to mix and match them all.

But if you were to pick three pieces - a tall order - then these are the ones you need, according to her, 'The flat curb necklace, it works with so many other things. The twisted hoops are a staple, chunky without being OTT. The black signet ring, I have not taken it off since I got it and it’s so comfortable.'

Penny Goldstone is the Digital Fashion Editor at Marie Claire, covering everything from catwalk trends to royal fashion and the latest high street and Instagram must-haves.

Penny grew up in France and studied languages and law at the Sorbonne Nouvelle University in Paris before moving to the UK for her MA in multimedia journalism at Bournemouth University. She moved to the UK permanently and has never looked back (though she does go back regularly to stock up on cheese and wine).

Although she's always loved fashion - she used to create scrapbooks of her favourite trends and looks, including Sienna Miller and Kate Moss' boho phase - her first job was at MoneySavingExpert.com, sourcing the best deals for everything from restaurants to designer sales.

However she quit after two years to follow her true passion, fashion journalism, and after many years of internships and freelance stints at magazines including Red, Cosmopolitan, Stylist and Good Housekeeping, landed her dream job as the Digital Fashion Editor at Marie Claire UK.

Her favourite part of the job is discovering new brands and meeting designers, and travelling the world to attend events and fashion shows. Seeing her first Chanel runway IRL at Paris Fashion Week was a true pinch-me moment.
