If you're wondering what to watch this weekend, we'd like to suggest our newest obsession: Broad City. Never heard of it? Well, Broad City is one of, if not THE, funniest show on television right now and we're here to tell you all about it.
Like some of the greatest sitcoms in history - we're talking Friends-level here - Broad City isn't particurlarly about anything. Instead, it follows the lives of Abbi Abrams and Ilana Wexler (Abbi Jacobson, right, and Ilana Glazer, left, respectively, playing fictionalised versions of themselves) as two twenty-something women trying to make it through life in New York City. Though it may sound like Girls, Abbi and Ilana take a much more weird and wonderfully optimistic take on living on your own in your 20s, and do it with humour that will have you both laughing on the floor and cringeing from second-hand embarassment.
Intrigued? Well, here's 4 more reasons why you should add Broad City to your boxset list NOW... It Got A Little Help From Amy Poehler...
'I am going to die because you're killing me slowly.'
Broad City started out as a web series where struggling actors, Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer, shed a light on being in your twenties in New York city, from fighting over giving a dollar to a homeless person to deciding which weirdo to hook-up with at a party.
Their hilarious take on everyday life in NYC caught the attention of SNL alumna (and Parks and Recreation babe) Amy Poehler who became the show's executive producer as it moved to Comedy Central.

And just to show how in love with them she was, she even appeared in their web series finale (above). So if Amy Poehler loves something, you know its good.
It's Too Real
'I'm an adult, I should be buying my own pot.'
Abbi and Ilana aren't galivanting about New York with limitless cash funds and the ability to do whatever they want. Instead, they are very aware they have little to no money - like most people in their twenties. But while Ilana is perfectly happy smoking weed all day, Abbi's constant attempts at getting a promotion from janitor to trainer at her gym are a believable - and relatable - source of comedy. Just watch the video above to see the duo's freaking out over some much needed cash. It's Deliciously Dirty
'You know the vagina is natures pocket, it's natural, and it's responsible.'
Though it doesn't have HBO levels of nudity, Broad City still talks about sex better than anyone else. Why? Because it's all about the girls. Men take the backseat in the series, as Abbi and Illana attempt to enjoy sex in a way that doesn't take up too much time or hassle, and aren't afraid of talking about women's needs. Take, for instance, the above scene when Abbi calls Illana to ask for some sex advice - hilarious.
Abbi + Ilana = #FriendshipGoals

But the real reason you need to watch is just to see these two BFFs doing loads of sh*t together. Without boyfriends and careers taking up their time, Abbi and Ilana act like the perfect couple (Ilana even frequently suggests hooking up with Abbi). And the best part? The show just heightens the real-life friendship between the two women. So even when the humour is a bit out there (check out the episode where Abbi gets high on anesthesia), the show works best when its just two girls talking crap. Feels a bit like watching your best mates really...
Amy Poehler's protégés are back for Season 2 of Broad City now on Comedy Central UK, Tuesdays at 10pm.
