We Need To Discuss Joey Barton’s Question Time Appearance: Was He Sexist?

The footballer compared last week's elections to 'choosing between ugly girls.'

Be honest, you were waiting for Joey Barton to drop a clanger on Question Time last night, weren’t you? Well, according to some, that clanger came in the shape of a sexist comment.

The QPR footballer received an audible groan from the audience when he compared last week’s European Parliament and local elections to ‘choosing between ugly girls’.

He said: ‘If I’m somewhere and there was four really ugly girls, I’m thinking she’s not the worst – that’s all UKIP are.’

It did not go down well with newly elected North West England UKIP MEP Louise Bour, who retorted: ‘What an offensive thing to say,’ before telling Barton he was a ‘typical’ footballer with his ‘brains in [his] feet.’

The footballer later apologised on Twitter for his remark, writing: ‘I may have upset one or two women with an ill conceived metaphor. #imnewtothis.’

What do you think? Was he being sexist, are you offended? Or, are people making a fuss over nothing? Let us know your thoughts in the comment box below.
