Britons may have hundreds of friends on social media sites but only five they can lean on when things are tough
You may think you have hundreds of friends but how many are true pals? Two-thirds of Britons say they have fewer than five people they can count on in a crisis.
Nearly half say that just one in 10 of their social media contacts are friends. Meanwhile, while most say they would call on fewer than a fifth of their online friends for support.
The YouGov survey of 2,045 internet users was commissioned by Links of London. Psychologist Rob Yeung says many of us like to think our success is based on how we perform but he emphasises the importance of support in achieving our aspirations.
The survey also revealed that 91 per cent of respondents would look to family and friends rather than famous people for their role models.
