Winona Ryder set to play Spock's mother in new Star Trek flick

WINONA RYDER IS set to grace the big screen again – as Mr Spock’s mother in the upcoming Star Trek movie.

Johnny Depp’s former fiancée will join Chris Pine (Captain Kirk), British comedian Simon Pegg (Scotty) and Heroes star Zachary Quinto (Spock) for the 11th big screen version of the cult TV show.

It is unknown whether Ryder will play the Vulcan mother of Spock, as initially reported by Variety magazine. According to Star Trek lore, Spock’s mother was human, as played by Jane Wyatt in the original series.

Directed by JJ Abrams, of Lost fame, the film will focus on the early journey of the original Enterprise crew, and is set for release in December 2008.
