Where to buy the best, and cheapest, Christmas crackers
GOOD NEWS FOR Christmas! Crackers needn’t cost the earth and still won’t embarrass you on the table on Christmas Day.
Which? has conducted a special festive survey into crackers, testing them on a real live family, and discovered a £15 box of crackers from Asda returned the best gifts and games.
Other crackers worthy of mention included Woolworths’ £13 box of eight, with gifts rivalling those of M&S and Debenhams, which cost twice as much.
‘Woolworths crackers were £12 cheaper but had similar contents to the £25 versions from Debenhams and Waitrose,’ said Which? ‘Each had gifts of silver – effect frames, trinkets and bottle openers.’
M&S’s offering was judged to be over-priced and the gifts ‘a bit girly’. ‘In my view, too much money has gone into the packaging and not enough into the content,’ said one family member.
Malcolm Coles, editor of Which.co.uk, added: ‘After pulling 60 crackers, our family of testers concluded that the more expensive luxury crackers aren’t always worth the extra cost.’
