Most of us are guilty of oversharing aspects of our lives on social media - but a survey has found this can be really annoying.

A survey of 1,793 people by fitness store Sweatband.com found the worst offenders are people who constantly update about how their diet or fitness regime is going, with 53 per cent of those surveyed saying it irked them the most.

Other annoying social media habits included people photographing and uploading their meals (45 per cent), people who write 'cryptic' statuses about being unhappy (42 per cent) and people who 'check-in' everywhere they go, even their own homes (26 per cent).

More than half of respondents to the survey say they are forced to reduce their social media use to avoid the irritating updates.

Sweatband.com’s Maz Darvish said: ‘We all have those friends who tell us about every single calorie they burn.

‘Whilst social media has given us a great way to keep in touch, it’s also given us another way to bombard people with things they just don’t care about.’
