Police have issued a warning to web daters after a woman was viciously beaten and raped by a man she met on the internet

A woman was raped and beaten when she met with a man just four days after she had begun speaking with him over the internet.

The 27 year-old was left unrecognisable after the attack by Peter Ramsey, 26, who she met through the dating website plentyoffish.com.

The pair went on a date but after the woman refused to kiss Mr Ramsey at the end of the evening, he pushed her to the ground and raped her.

The Inner London Crown Court heard how Mr Ramsey caused 21 different injuries to his victim, knocking her front teeth. 'I thought I was going to die,' she told the court.

DC Richard Huggins, the officer in charge of the case, warns other internet daters to be wary and find out more about the people they plan to meet.

The woman, who can't be named for legal reasons, says: 'He seemed like a nice guy. The date was going well. I thought we had a lot in common.'

But after dinner and drinks in Brixton, he took her back to her flat where he assaulted her in the communal entrance of the building before stealing her handbag .

Mr Ramsey was arrested a week later and found unanimously guilty of rape, wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and theft. He will be sentenced on 27th April.
