Both Meghan and Kate nodded to their wedding days with their Trooping the Colour outfits

It was all about the sartorial details at this weekend's Trooping the Colour. Prince Louis borrowed an outfit from Prince Harry and Prince William, and Meghan Markle sported an eternity ring that was most likely a birth present from her husband.

Now royal experts have said that the Duchess of Cambridge and the Duchess of Sussex both decided to hark back to their respective wedding days with their outfits.

Kate wore a sunny yellow dress by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen, who also designed her famous lace wedding dress.

Meanwhile, Meghan opted for a navy and cream set that came with a cape, by Clare Waight Keller for Givenchy, the woman behind her classically beautiful wedding dress.

It might or might not be a coincidence of course, but either way it's a nice little nod to their big days.

Meghan came out of maternity leave for the Queen's birthday, and naturally left baby Archie at home as he's still too little for big events like this, though she is expected to make the most of her time at home until officially reprising her royal duties.

Penny grew up in France and studied languages and law at the Sorbonne Nouvelle University in Paris before moving to the UK for her MA in multimedia journalism at Bournemouth University. She moved to the UK permanently and has never looked back (though she does go back regularly to stock up on cheese and wine).

Although she's always loved fashion - she used to create scrapbooks of her favourite trends and looks, including Sienna Miller and Kate Moss' boho phase - her first job was at MoneySavingExpert.com, sourcing the best deals for everything from restaurants to designer sales.

However she quit after two years to follow her true passion, fashion journalism, and after many years of internships and freelance stints at magazines including Red, Cosmopolitan, Stylist and Good Housekeeping, landed her dream job as the Digital Fashion Editor at Marie Claire UK.

Her favourite part of the job is discovering new brands and meeting designers, and travelling the world to attend events and fashion shows. Seeing her first Chanel runway IRL at Paris Fashion Week was a true pinch-me moment.
