This is officially the best time to shop at TK Maxx

Shopping at TK Maxx is a bit like a trip to Ikea. It's a good idea on principle, and you enter with that hopeful glow of one ready to bag a bargain. But you quickly deflate after sifting through racks and racks of discounts, to ultimately leave empty-handed because it's just easier to give up.

Luckily new stats are about to make navigating those discounts a lot easier. According to Thinknum, which analysed TK Maxx discounts over the past couples of years, the retailer's discounts peak at the beginning of every month.

But if you're after a huge saving, then you won't be surprised to hear that the biggest discounts come in January, which is of course prime sale season.

During those times, discounts can go as high as 52%.

Other good times to shop are July and August, presumably due to the summer sales and shifting of old stock in time for the new season.

So if you're planning a trip to the discount store anytime soon, know that next week is probably a good time.

Now it's worth noting that the research was done in America, however there's no reason it wouldn't be a similar pattern here in the UK. Happy bargain hunting.

Penny grew up in France and studied languages and law at the Sorbonne Nouvelle University in Paris before moving to the UK for her MA in multimedia journalism at Bournemouth University. She moved to the UK permanently and has never looked back (though she does go back regularly to stock up on cheese and wine).

Although she's always loved fashion - she used to create scrapbooks of her favourite trends and looks, including Sienna Miller and Kate Moss' boho phase - her first job was at MoneySavingExpert.com, sourcing the best deals for everything from restaurants to designer sales.

However she quit after two years to follow her true passion, fashion journalism, and after many years of internships and freelance stints at magazines including Red, Cosmopolitan, Stylist and Good Housekeeping, landed her dream job as the Digital Fashion Editor at Marie Claire UK.

Her favourite part of the job is discovering new brands and meeting designers, and travelling the world to attend events and fashion shows. Seeing her first Chanel runway IRL at Paris Fashion Week was a true pinch-me moment.
